Why we publish every lot, including the boring ones

Publishing a Certificate of Analysis is a low bar. Nearly every supplier in this category will send you one on request, and most will show you a representative certificate on the product page. Our position is that “representative” is doing something dishonest.

The problem with a representative COA

A representative certificate tells you what a good batch from this supplier looked like at some point. It tells you nothing about the batch in your hand.

The tell is not that a product page shows a single certificate. Ours does, because a single batch is what is shipping at any given moment, and the document describing it is the one you actually want to read before you buy. The tell is what happens to that certificate when it is replaced. If it disappears the moment a newer result comes in, it was never a record. It was a marketing asset that happened to be shaped like one.

What we do instead

Each product page carries the certificate for the batch currently shipping. When that batch sells out and the next one comes back from the lab, the new certificate takes its place on the page — and the one it replaced stays published, at the same permanent URL it has always had, marked plainly as superseded. Nothing is deleted. Nothing is quietly swapped.

The practical consequence is that the batch number printed on your vial still resolves to the document that batch was tested under, however long ago you bought it. Search that number on our COA index and you will find it whether or not it is what we are shipping today.

Why the archive matters more than any single certificate

Keeping the whole record published makes it auditable. You can look at every batch of a given compound we have shipped, in order, and see the spread. That is a stronger claim than any single certificate, and unlike a single certificate it is a claim that gets harder to fake over time rather than easier.

Indexed, not gated

Our certificates are public and open to search engines. No account, no login, no email capture. Gating a quality document behind a lead form communicates that the document is a marketing asset, which returns us to the first problem.

What this costs us

Honestly: some flexibility. A permanent, complete archive means that a batch which came back at the low end of specification stays visible alongside the rest of them. We think a supplier unwilling to show you that distribution is not really showing you anything.
